2008 ARRS Annual Meeting Instructional Course Series

IC113: Medico-Legal Aspects of Imaging Breast Cancer (Jay Parikh, MD, FRCP(c), CPE, FSBI, FACPE, and Leonard Lucey)

The 2008 ARRS Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, on April 13-18, will feature an instructional course entitled, “Medico-Legal Aspects of Imaging Breast Cancer” (IC113). This presentation features Jay Parikh, MD, FRCP(c), CPE, FSBI, FACPE, who is medical director of the Women’s Diagnostic Imaging Center at the Swedish Cancer Institute in Seattle, and Leonard Lucey, who is the senior director of the Diagnostic Modality Accreditation Program at the American College of Radiology.

The instructional course will provide a succinct review of the Physician Insurers Association of America (PIAA) data regarding radiologist malpractice litigation in the United States.

“According to the PIAA data, the delay in diagnosis of breast cancer is currently the most common reason for malpractice litigation in the United States. This instructional course will help the audience identify risk factors for physician malpractice litigation in breast imaging. From these risk factors, risk management strategies to use in daily practice will be developed for the practicing breast imager,” said Dr. Parikh.

In addition, the presenters will highlight lessons learned from prior litigation cases that can also provide a template to reduce physician malpractice litigation risk.

IC113 takes place on Monday, April 14, at 4:15 pm. For more information about the 2008 ARRS Annual Meeting, visit www.arrs.org/meetings/ano8/.
